When I visit the Growers Market of Fuquay-Varina, I think of the story of the little engine that could. It’s the little market that can. The town continues to show tremendous support for its downtown market, providing an attractive and convenient venue for local food fans to purchase seasonal produce and specialty food items twice weekly.
Regular produce vendors include Holland Farm, Barnes Farm, Pipa’s Farm and RB Mason. Plus, shoppers will find a selection of canned goods and prepared foods (chicken salad and pimento cheese spread, for example) from JAM Catering. For bakery needs, the popular Stick Boy Bread shop is just a short walk down Main Street too.
Though a small market presently, the Growers Market of Fuquay-Varina has both the space and most importantly the support to expand, having just won a $30,000 grant award that will allow the market to hire a part time manager, increase their marketing and start accepting EBT payments.
Speaking of marketing, the UNC TV show Flavor NC, paid a visit to the Growers Market and cooked up a little something tasty while there. The episode airs tonight at 9 pm and again on Saturday at 10:30 am (so set those DVRs).
Market Info: 3:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesdays and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturdays, April thru October.
Shoppers will find ample (free) parking in the adjacent municipal parking lot.
This market is convenient to residents of Fuquay-Varina.
