When I visit Eno River Farmers’ Market in downtown Hillsborough, I don’t feel as though I’m in a downtown area surrounded by municipal buildings. Although the Orange County Sheriff’s office is just a few feet away, the market’s lush green, park-like surroundings make it feel like an oasis.
The crafts under the market pavilion are just as eye-catching, like the brightly colored infant and toddler wear from Baby Dreams, the warm earth tones of gourd bowls and vases from Treehouse Gardens and the polished grains of wood turned objects from J. Mathivet.
Of course food crafters offer temptations too. Market shoppers will find prepared food items from many vendors including Exclusively Fresh pasta and sauces, Accidental Baker’s crisp crackers and seasonal jams from This & That Jam.
Late summer and early fall produce from Walker Family Farm caught my attention the Saturday I visited the market. Hurtgen Meadows Farm, Farm 42 and Timberwood Organics also sell produce at Eno River Farmers’ Market, while Fickle Creek Farm, BassZac Poultry and Rogers Cattle Company offer a variety of meats and eggs.
Shoppers will find entertainment options as well, like a monthly pancake breakfast, or toe-tapping tunes from musicians at the market. Bolin Creek String Band had one little market shopper dancing around on a Saturday morning. All-in-all, the setting, vendors and added features at Eno River Farmers’ Market make it a favorite weekly shopping stop in historic downtown Hillsborough.
Market Info: Open year round on Saturdays. 8 am to Noon Apr – Oct and 10 am to Noon Nov – Mar.
Shoppers will find ample (free) parking in the municipal lot adjacent to the market.
