Conventional wisdom advises that habits are ingrained after 21 days of repetition. If that theory holds true, then the eat~play~shop local habit requires time and effort to develop. Each month I’ll share “21 Days” of some event, place or organization in the Triangle, enabling (and I mean that in the most positive sense possible) your inner Localista to come out and join us. This month it’s all about making time to play, at local sports facilities, live music venues, indie movie theaters and fun places and spaces all around the Triangle.
The Durham Bulls are to Spring and Summer what the Carolina Hurricanes are to Fall and Winter, as far as sports teams in the Triangle are concerned. As baseball season begins to wind down, the NHL hockey season starts anew, with renewed hope for the coming season. This weekend was sort of a preview of the coming Hurricanes season, with an opportunity to get player autographs, watch a short game with shootout, and check out available seats for the 2014-2015 season.
Of course, there were lots of activities for kids and families during Summerfest. I really enjoyed watching kids going through drills on the ice, skating as hard as they could, just like the pros. Last season family night ticket packages for four were available (for varying prices) that included a hot dog, popcorn and soda. I’ve haven’t seen an update to the promotional nights for this season yet, but you can watch here for updates.
If you’re itching to catch a game this fall you have just one opportunity in September (during preseason) and three in October (one preseason, two regular season games). Home games at the PNC arena really pick up in November and December and you can find the full schedule here.
